JOB DESCRIPTION

Porter Scientific Inc is adding additional staff to its existing team of field representatives conducting facility surveys in support of the Hurricane Sandy Recovery effort. Duties include: inspection of buildings and facilities utilizing IRVS software; identify hazards/flaws/ risks/issues for each facility; perform research via databases and software to gather information on facilities; determine seismic, wind, flood, and terrorism threats on facilities; site visits to meet with facility representatives to gather information, review of physical documentation in field (plans, permits, certificates, etc.); document brief description summary of each facility, utilize software such as ArcGIS and HAZUS to interpret results and finding; QA/QC survey for accuracy. Full-time work. Prior experience with IRVS software a plus.

Dr. Freda Porter, Porter Scientific CEO and President, holds a Ph.D. from Duke University in Applied Mathematics specializing in Numerical Modeling. Dr. Porter has been involved in Groundwater Contamination research with EPA and Noise Modeling and Simulation research with NASA Langley Research Center. Current initiatives of the corporation include environmental sustainability and green energy topics with a focus on military and commercial applications.

Porter Scientific Inc management collectively constitutes a century of staff experience in the environmental, civil, information technology, and education and outreach disciplines. Senior staff are pioneers in areas such as Brownfields programs. Other Porter Scientific key personnel have provided research, education and outreach for IBM, EPA, NASA, NC Department of Transportation, UNC-Pembroke, UNC-Chapel Hill and NC A&T State University.
