Additional Information: Native American Festival raises money for Diabetes! Shippensburg University, Student Recreation center, Shippensburg PA – March 14, 2015 – Every March the Native American people gather at the University for a Pow Wow. What is a Pow Wow? It’s a gathering of Native American’s to celebrate their heritage, beliefs and culture, by singing, dancing and drumming. What you will see; Native American dressed in their regalia, drumming, singing and dancing throughout the day. You will also see many native crafters and vendors, Native American food and Native American flutes. The cost of the event is $5 per person; under age 7 and over 65 will be admitted for free. The doors will open at 10am, Grand entry is at Noon and the doors will close at 6pm when the event ends. Our goal this year is to bring the public to this event, to spread the word about diabetes and to raise funds for JDRF. We are supporting the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) this year and will send them the proceeds from this event. “It is our hope that we can build both the Lawilowan American Indian Festival and the Muddy Run Powwow in large, well-attended and well-thought-of events, that allow us to continue to contribute as much as we possibly can to defeat diabetes, as well as educate the non-Indian public about our many cultures with the culture, and dispel the many negative stereotypes about the American Indian people, that still exists today”.
