Lee 7/10/15 The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center recently graduated a record 39 American Indians in the health professions.   “We could almost open our own hospital!” quips Tassy Parker, Seneca, who holds several positions at the university, including director of the Center for Native American Health. Ireland Honors the Choctaw Nation.

Here’s an interesting piece of history that I first read about through PowWows.com: In 1831, the Choctaw Nation was forcibly removed from their lands by the colonized US government.  From 1845 to 1849, the Irish potato famine forced many Irish to flee or starve.  Despite the obvious challenges and struggles the Choctaw Nation had continued to suffer for the last several generation, the people organized and raised $170 – or $71,000, present-day – to assist the suffering Irish.  As a tribute to this generosity, a plaque was installed and an empty bowl made of metallic eagle feathers will be unveiled soon in County Cork, Ireland.  YouRead More →
